3 Things

1. Going to Butler with Mom and Alec-- It's nice to wander around Sams Club with a friend (especially since normally that's what Harry and I do and he isn't here) and just talk about life. I also just really love the ride to Butler with my mom. It still feels like an exciting outing, even when we're just going to 5 below. Also, I want to own everything in Michaels. I hate scrapbooking, but I love everything that gets sold in a scrapbook section.

2. Catching up with old friends-- Sara and I have been friends since we took private spanish lessons together in early elementary school, and our friendship has seen a love of The Beatles, late night Clue, a dance routine for our school talent show, countless theater productions (highlights including The Broadcast and when I was the Beth to her Jo in Little Women), and the paradox of soul-sucking-joy that was high school band. Of all my high school friends, it has been easiest to fall back into my friendship with her because it seems like we always have something new to talk about. I think those relationships are often at risk of getting stale (you can only take someone to Leonardo's so many times) but Sara is so fun and new while still being very Sara, that we don't have that issue. It's like we grew up separately, but still managed to keep the same things that brought us together. That's nice.

3. City of Heavenly Fire finally came out-- I know it is probably the most fan girl'ed book series on tumblr, but I love it. Cassandra Clare has this knack for writing all her characters-- women, gay, lesbian, whatever-- as people, and I Like That. Her strong women aren't anomalies, which is usually all it takes for me to give a book a chance. It isn't going to be a timeless series like Harry Potter, but The Mortal Instruments is well written and tackles some pretty heavy topics while still being a fun read. I read the first four in a week, so if you have time, I would suggest them (but don't go see the movie).
